Job Title: Activities Assistant

Summary of Position
Assists the Activities Director in planning, scheduling, and implementing a program of individual and group activities based on resident needs.
Essential Functions
- Understand the importance of customer service and be willing to learn resident/relative satisfaction techniques.
- Interview residents to find out their activity interests.
- Plan or assist in the planning of activities for the residents.
- Conduct or assist in conducting activities.
- Encourage residents to participate in activities.
- Set up area to be used for a specific activity and clean up after each activity.
- Make signs and posters as needed.
- Obtain, set up, and serve refreshments, being sure to watch out for residents on special diets.
- Transport residents to and from activities.
- Take photographs during activities.
- Participate in activities with the residents when appropriate.
- Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with residents.
- Record residents’ attendance and report any changes in a resident’s activity pattern to the Activities Director.
- Write assessments and progress notes on each resident as assigned by the Activities Director.
- Observe residents during activities, watching for signs of progress or problems and when possible take steps to resolve concerns or report concerns to the Activities Director.
- Assist residents who have physical or mental limitations to participate in the activity.
- Provide one‑on‑one activities for low level functioning residents.
- Plan special activities as assigned.
- Run errands outside the facility when necessary.
- Feed clean and care for facility pets.
- Decorate the facility for holidays and special events.
- Work on weekends, holidays and evenings when assigned.
- Take over the duties and responsibilities of the Activities Director when he/she is not available, as assigned.
- Observe all facility safety policies and procedures.
- Observe all infection control procedures related to the Activity department.
- Observe Resident Right’s policies at all times and maintain resident confidentiality.
- Observe facility disaster preparedness procedures.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Program Manual.
- Perform all other related duties as directed by the Activities Director.

Exposure Observations
The duties of this position entail category II occupational exposure. This means that while the regular duties of this position themselves do not involve exposure to bloodborne pathogens, the person in this position may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens in an emergency situation. The recommended precautions that should be taken are use of gloves and hand washing.
