What are the Seven Dimensions of Wellness?

Health is not just physical fitness— it's so much more. At St. Andrew's, providing comprehensive, whole-person care is intricately woven into our everyday approach. This is why we offer Vitality activity programming that incorporates all SEVEN dimensions of wellness. What are those, you ask?

The Seven Dimensions of Wellness work together collectively to form a comprehensive approach to a fulfilling and enriched life. Learn more about these seven below:

1. Physical Wellness:

Physical wellness refers to the overall health of the body, involving daily habits that contribute to a healthy lifestyle.

St. Andrew's recognizes the importance of physical health with its Vital Active program, promoting physical activity and exercise. Residents engage in regular exercise, including morning walks, chair yoga, chair dancing exercises, fusion exercises, and more. They can also receive guidance on adequate sleep and have access to healthcare checkups for maintaining optimal physical wellness.

2. Emotional Wellness:

The emotional dimension involves understanding, managing, and expressing emotions in a positive and constructive way.

Emotional well-being is a priority at St. Andrew's. Through activities that foster emotional health enrichment, our residents can experience positive attitudes, build self-esteem, practice stress management techniques, reminisce on precious memories, and develop strong communication skills within a supportive network of fellow community members.

3. Social Wellness:

Social wellness emphasizes the importance of healthy relationships, meaningful connections, and a supportive network.

St. Andrew's incorporates social wellness through the Connected Vitality and Social Vitality categories. Residents participate in events that foster healthy relationships, encouraging interactions with friends, family members, and fellow community members to create a strong support network. Activities can include bingo, social hours, karaoke, movie nights, and more.

4. Intellectual Wellness:

Intellectual wellness involves engaging in lifelong learning, stimulating the mind, and fostering personal growth.

St. Andrew's supports intellectual wellness by providing opportunities for residents to participate in activities that stimulate their minds. Residents are encouraged to pursue new skills, engage in lifelong learning, and find personal satisfaction through activities that challenge and enrich their intellectual capacities, such as trivia, word searches, painting, puzzles, craft time, and more.

5. Spiritual Wellness:

Spiritual wellness encompasses a sense of purpose, inner peace, and connection to a higher power or personal beliefs.

St. Andrew's addresses spiritual well-being through the Spiritual Vitality category. We work with everyone to discover their spiritual needs and how best to fulfill them. Bible studies, worship services, peaceful walks through our gardens, a solo meditation on a quiet afternoon— our residents and their family members find spiritual fulfillment in these activities (and many more) every single day in our senior living communities.

6. Occupational Wellness:

Occupational wellness relates to finding meaning and satisfaction in one's work or activities, contributing to a sense of life balance.

St. Andrews’ holistic approach extends to occupational wellness by encouraging residents to participate in activities that align with their past and present interests, fostering a sense of purpose and life balance.

7. Environmental Wellness:

Environmental wellness involves enjoying nature as well as engaging in sustainable practices.

In recognition of their responsibility to the earth, St. Andrew's emphasizes environmental wellness by promoting recycling and sustainable practices, contributing to a positive environmental impact. We also encourage our residents to spend time outside and commune with nature for a positive impact on their mental health and self-care.
